Nathan Chen is Ivy League Bound

Nathan chen had to pack a bit more than usual for Champs Camp this year.
The camp served as a pit stop for the two-time U.S. champion on his way from Lakewood, California, to New Haven, Connecticut, to begin his next chapter as a full-time Yale student and Team USA competitor.
“Packing was rough,” he laughed, echoing the sentiments of college freshmen across the country.
“I want to bring everything, but obvi ously I can’t.
Fortunately, having a single dorm, Ihave a little bit more room to put my stuff, but the necessities come first, so obviously skates, computer basically all the school supplies and all my skating supplies, and then just casualwear and stuff.”
When Chen arrived on campus on the Thursday following Champs Camp, he still had to finalize his classes for the fall semester but he had already figured out his new training schedule across the country from longtime coach Rafael Arutunian.

“I still have a lot of questions about my class schedule, but I have pretty comcrete ice time now,” he seid.
“Ultimately, I have no idea what will happen, but I’m really excited for it.”
Chen faces the unknown with three suitcas es and guitar case in tow, eager to see that the next season, and school year, have in store.

『ネイサン・チェン、アイビーリーグに行く』

ネイサン・チェンの今年のチャンプズ・キャンプはいつもよりも少し荷物が多めだった。２度の全米チャンピオンが、フルタイムのイェール大学生とチーム・アメリカの競技者として新しいチャプターを始める為、カリフォルニア州レイクウッドからコネチカット州ニューヘイブンへ行く途中の(カーレースの)ピット・ストップの役割をキャンプは果たした。
「荷造りは大雑把だった」と、全米中の大学新入生達の感情にこだまする様に、彼は笑う。「全部持って生きたかったけど、それは明らかに無理。幸運にも寮は個室なので、自分の物を置くスペースが少しは多くあるけど、必要な物を優先しないといけなくて、つまりスケート靴とパソコン。実際には学校関係とスケート関係の備品全て、それから普段着など、それだけ」
チャンプズ・キャンプが終わって木曜日にチェンが大学に到着した時、秋セメスターのクラス履修はまだ終わっていなかったが、長年のコーチ、ラファエル・アルトゥニアンとアメリカを横断して進める新しいトレーニング・スケジュールはすでに決めていた。

「履修するクラスのスケジュールについて僕はまだ分からない事がたくさんあるけど、今のところ氷上の時間はしっかり取れてるよ」と彼は言った。「最終的には、何が起こるか僕には全く分からない、でも、凄くワクワクしてる」

チェンは、３つのスーツケースとギターを携えて、未知の世界に飛び込む。計画を立てた次の(スケート)シーズンと大学での１年間がどうなるか知りたくてたまらない様だ。
